Mophie Juice Pack Universal Powerstation Pro means you can leave your phone charger at home

Festival essential
Mophie Juice Pack Universal Powerstation Pro

The Apple Store has begun selling a waterproof Mophie power pack that has enough juice to charge an iPhone three times over.

The Mophie Juice Pack Universal Powerstation Pro should go down a treat with festival-goers this summer as it means you won’t have to fight for that one electrical output.

With dual USB ports the Mophie Juice Pack Universal Powerstation Pro can charge up to two USB-compatible devices simultaneously, thanks to a 6000-mAh capacity, and will even be able to top up an iPad.

So long as the ports are closed, the powerstation is both water and dust resistant to a rating of IP65 – meaning it should be able to withstand that inevitable downpour, or worse. Its rugged shell made up of rubber, aluminium and steel should also be able to withstand various knocks and bumps.

The Mophie Juice Pack Universal Powerstation Pro is available now from the Apple Store for ?79.95.

Samsung launches new Windows Phone in the shape of the Omnia M

It’s not just about Android you know
Samsung Omnia M launched

Proving that it still very much has its fingers in the Windows Phone pie, Samsung has unveiled the latest addition to its Omnia range.?

The Samsung Omnia M runs on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and sports a four-inch Super AMOLED display and 1GHz processor.?

In terms of design, there’s nothing revolutionary here – it’s an impressive 10.5mm thick while Samsung has opted for a contoured back – but its’ under the bonnet where Samsung really hopes to conjure up excitement.

Billed as a social multi-tasker the phone has been kitted out with some interactive apps including Samsung’s ChatON service. This enables users from any phone platform (be it Windows, Android, iOS or BlackBerry) to communicate with each other either individually or as a group.

Though it will need to be downloaded, the Samsung Omnia M also supports Family Story, which uses a cloud-based network to share messages, videos and photos on multiple Samsung devices.

Samsung AllShare is onboard allowing you to play any films, music and games you have downloaded on the Omnia M direct to a compatible TV, while the Music Hub’s Smart DJ feature creates playlists from your music collection depending on your mood.

In terms of Windows credentials, message and contacts from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Windows Live will automatically be synched into one outlet via Windows Phone’s People Hub, while the phone also comes with 25GB of free online storage with Windows Live SkyDrive.

Other specs of note include a five-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash (there’s also a front-facing VGA for video calling), Wi-Fi and HSDPA connectivity.

In terms of memory, there’s a somewhat measly 4GB of user memory and only 384MB RAM and just to rub salt in the wounds, there doesn’t appear to be any microSD card slot either.

Samsung says the Omnia M will initially be rolled in Europe before being shipped to other regions. No word on pricing yet.

Samsung Galaxy S III confirmed as official London 2012 Olympics phone

Limited edition for athletes
Samsung Galaxy S III - London 2012 Olympics

After much speculation, it has been confirmed by sponsors Samsung and Visa that the Samsung Galaxy S III will be the official mobile phone of the London 2012 Olympic Games. However, you won’t be able to buy one of the limited edition showcase handsets, they are strictly for sponsored athletes and selected trialists.

Because of its NFC contactless payment capabilities, Visa Europe will be installing a version of its Visa payWave application on the special devices, allowing those who manage to get their hands on one to pay for merchandise, food and drink within the Olympic Village and plenty of other retail locations around London.

The app works as a digital wallet, with the user being able to pay for items by simply waving it over contactless payment terminals, of which there are expected to be 140,000 in operation around the UK by the start of the Games. Payments over ?20, however, will need to be verified with a passcode for security reasons.

“Mobile payment services enabled by NFC technology are gaining momentum around the world,” said DJ Lee, executive vice president and head of the?Sales and Marketing team of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

“The Samsung Galaxy S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind and is the ideal device to showcase the ease and convenience of Visa’s mobile payment application at the London 2012 Olympic Games.”

“The future is mobile and cash usage will only continue to decline as people use their mobile devices to manage their money, shop and pay,” added Sandra Alzetta, senior vice president of Mobile at Visa Europe.

“This summer our partnership with Samsung will showcase all the advantages of the future of payments: security, convenience, speed and flexibility being forefront among them.”

The official Olympic Games version of the Samsung Galaxy S III is supported and enabled by London 2012 Games partner Lloyds TSB in the UK.

What value will one be on ebay when the Games are over?

Samsung Focus 2 brings 4G speeds to Windows Phone

Focus S successor due 20 May
Samsung Focus 2

The Samsung Focus 2 looks to undercut the Windows Phone competition with its AT&T $49.99/month contract deal.

Samsung’s first 4G LTE Windows Phone promises super-fast speeds wrapped up in a slender body. The model is just shy of 11cm long, weighs an ultra-light 121g and comes dressed in a white finish. Very sleek.

A 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and 5-megapixel rear camera make composing and shooting images or 720p HD movie clips a breeze. There’s also a front-facing VGA (640×480) camera that’s ideal for face-to-face video chat.

The first details were released at this year’s International CTIA Wireless show in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the full Focus 2 specification still to be announced. That’s why, for now at least, there’s no information about the phone’s processor, but based on the low price package deal we suspect that it’ll be a conservative job.

Available 20 May, check out AT&T’s website for further pricing and package information.
