Canon digital SLR cameras used in Avengers Assemble
Superhero credentials

Canon has announced that two of its digital SLR cameras were used in the filming of blockbuster Avengers Assemble.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 7D Digital SLR cameras were used for point-of-view shots (i.e. those shots seen from a character’s viewpoint) before being intercut with 35mm footage.?
It appears the Canon 5D Mark II and EOS 7D digital SLR cameras also proved handy when shooting the numerous fighting scenes, enabling the team to capture tighter angled shots on account of the cameras compact size.?
“The 5D Mark II and the 7D digital SLR cameras produce excellent, cinema-worthy images. They are great for shooting additional angles that give film editors more options for creating powerfully immersive and kaleidoscopic views of action scenes,” explained the film’s cinematographer, Seamus McGarvey.
The Avengers Assemble broke the US box office record for an opening weekend taking in $200.3 million, a record previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.

Lomography cameras put style before substance with colourful designs
Groovy baby

The Lomographic Society has unveiled a host of colourful and retro-designed cameras to sit alongside its recently unveiled denim design. Just don’t expect the features to boot.
The cameras themselves range from monochrome pastel and denim coloured designs to more bold colours such as blue and red.
The Monochrome edition is available in Diana F+ Neptune Green (?89), Diana Mini Coral Fusion ?99) and Fisheye 2 Faded Denim (?79), with square, half format and fisheye effects.

The La Sardina Beach edition has a striped fabric finish – no camera is the same – while the body itself is white. The La Sardina St. Tropez is available for ?59 while those wanting a flash can opt for the La Sardina Capri for ?99.
The Fisheye Candy edition is available in a pink or yellow variant and uses a 35 mm film. It’s the cheapest of Lomography’s new range costing ?45.

The Sprocket Rocket SuperPop Edition uses two scrolling dials to enable a better panoramic shot. There’s no flash but then this camera is more about style than substance. Available in blue, red, pink and mint the sprocket rocket camera costs ?79.
With references to Soho, Carnaby Street and Whitechapel the La Sardina Guvnor is one for the proud Londoner. It certainly has a quirky appeal to it, but at ?99 you may be left wanting for more than the basic fine wide angle snaps it offers.
All the cameras are available from 9 May apart from the Sprocket Rocket range that won’t be out until 24 May.
