Fujifilm has chosen today to announce its PMA 2007 compact digital cameras, starting with the upgrade to the popular S5600 budget super zoom. The S5700 brings many improvements including a redesigned body and control system, 7.2 million pixel sensor, ISO 1600 and several new features. It’s a solid upgrade but we’re not sure that the claim from the press release that it’s ‘the ultimate camera for every occasion’ would stand up in a court of law… (continue reading…)

Fujifilm FinePix IS Pro
Fujifilm today announced the launch of the IS Pro – its third camera designed to record non-visible light and aimed at the law enforcement, scientific, medical and fine art communities. The camera – we assume it to be based on the S5 Pro – has a modified CCD filter pack and is sensitive to Ultraviolet and Infrared light between 380nm and 1000nm. (continue reading…)
Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd
Fujiflm has joined the ‘big zoom’ brigade with a camera designed to go head-to-head with the Olympus SP-550UZ and the new Pansaonic FZ18. Sporting an 18x (27-486mm equiv.) zoom, 8MP sensor and – for the first time in a Fujifilm ‘bridge’ camera – image stabilization (CCD-shift), the new FinePix S8000fd is Fujifilm’s most ambitious S series to date. Other features of note include face detection, 15fps shooting (at reduced resolution) and sensitivity settings of up to ISO 6400 (again, at reduced resolution). Casio Exilim EX-FH20
Casio has launched the Exilim EX-FH20 high speed digital compact camera. Building on the interest in its EX-F1 model, the FH20 offers a burst rate of up to 40fps and movies at 1000fps. The camera is built around a 9.1MP, 1/2.3” CMOS sensor and 20x zoom lens (26-520mm equiv) Priced at £399, the EX-FH20 is considerably less expensive than the EX-F1 and will be available from October. Fujifilm FinePix S100fs
Today is the day Fujifilm has chosen to reveal the new models it is launching at the PMA show next week. There’s 7 models in total, but the most intersting is undoubtedly the FinePix S100FS, which the company is describing as its most advanced consumer digital camera to date and its latest attempt to offer a viable DSLR alternative. Headline features include a large 2/3 inch 11 megapixel Super CCD sensor, all-new optically-stabilized 14.3x (28-400mm) manual zoom lens and a version of the 100-400% wide dynamic range and film simulation (hence ‘FS’) options seen on the FinePix S5 Pro SLR.
