Canon’s A630 is a great follow up to the popular A610, and at 8 megapixels, a fantastic choice for point-and-shoot photographers. The A630 is another great mainstream camera from Canon; extremely affordable yet technologically advanced yet easy to use and understand. Replacing the much-loved A710 IS, the Canon Powershot A720 IS is a minor update that pushes the megapixels up to 8 and generally offers the same great above-average zooming ability that came with its predecessor. As part of Canon’s ‘A’ series, it’s wonderfully simple, yet capable of great things, with full manual control in addition to its entry-level auto settings. If you’ve spent any time bouncing around DCHQ, you’ll know that we’ve been tremendous fans of the Canon A640. It’s a great camera, so great in fact, that we never thought much about how it could be made better. Lucky for us, Canon was thinking about that, and the A650 IS is their answer. Naturally, they’ve increased the number of megapixels, chasing the 12MP trend as they should. What’s really got us excited however, is the introduction of image stabilization and an above-average 6x optical zoom! The ‘A’ series cameras are great, with simple automatic settings for novice users and full manual controls for those who want to experiment. The Canon A1000 IS is a new point-and-shoot meant for novice and casual photographers, with plenty of features that will aid users in taking an excellent photo. The A1000 IS has an “easy mode,” which displays helpful callouts and instructions on the LCD display, guiding users through the various functions and settings. It’s got a dash of style, as well, and can be found in brown, gray, purple, and blue dual-tone shades.
