Fujiflm has announced a minor upgrade to the S9500 (aka S9000) in the shape of the FinePix S9600 (to be known as the FinePix S9100 in the USA). The new model is claimed to offer better low light performance, faster operation and improved image quality thanks to a new processor. Externally almost indentical to its predecessor, the S9600 has the same resolution (9 million pixels) and the same 10.7x optical zoom.

Casio Exilim EX-S880

Casio has today announced two new digital cameras whose USP (Unique Selling Point) is a YouTube optimized video capture mode. Thankfully this promises to be more than just marketing fluff as the EX-77 and EX-S880 record video using the MPEG-4 H.264 video codec, something we’ve been asking manufacturers to implement for some time. You can record almost 19 minutes of 640×480 video (with audio) at 30 fps on a 1 GB SD card, and of course both cameras support SDHC cards so that’s an hour and 10 minutes of high quality video on a 4 GB card. Moving back to still capture capabilities for a second, both cameras have a three times optical zoom lens, the EX-S880 has an eight megapixel sensor, the EX-S77 a seven megapixel sensor.

Fujifilm has also announced a couple of additions to its entry-level ‘A’ series range. The A610 and A800 (6.3MP and 8.3MP respectively) are notable mainly for being the first A series cameras to sport Super CCD HR sensors and Real Photo processors. Like the F40fd (see above) both cameras have dual media slots (for xD and SD cards). Is this the beginning of the end for xD-Picture card?

Casio today announced its EXILIM EX-V8 and EX-Z1080 compact digital cameras, making much of their YouTube™ Capture Mode. The 8.1 megapixel EX-V8 fits a 7x 38-266 equivalent lens totally within its slim shell and irons out any shakes with a CCD-shift image stabilization system. The EX-Z1080 ups the pixel count to 10.1 and sports a 3x 38-114 equivalent zoom. Modern H.264/AVC video encoding ensures movie file sizes remain small yet high quality and YouTube™ Capture Mode sets all the right parameters for easy posting via the company’s unique “YouTube™ Uploader for CASIO” software. Other headline features include face-detection, Anti Shake DSP and sensitivities up to ISO 6400.

Fujifilm has announced a new model that joins the F20, F30 and F31fd in the growing FinePix ‘F’ range. The F40fd offers an increased pixel count (8.3 MP) and (perhaps because of this) a slightly lower ISO 2000 maximum sensitivity, and Fuji’s new Face Detection system. Interestingly the F40fd has dual memory card slots (xD and SD), but lacks the F30′s Aperture/Shutter priority modes.
